Trauma Kit Training

The RTR Trauma Kits are  "Go Bags" intended for the treatment of deep tissue and penetrating injuries with high blood loss.  It is designed so the kit can be easily carried to the patient's side. This website is designed to provide training on the contents of the RTR Trauma Kit.  Let's upack the kit together.

The RTR Trauma kit comes in a Condor EMT Pouch and it can be snapped in place for storage.  it will have a red tamper seal at the top where the two zippers meet.  To start using your kit you will brake this seal.  ONLY BREAK THE SEAL WHEN YOU ARE USING THIS KIT.  If the seal is broken, contact your safety representative ASAP.  This kit is for traumas only there are no bandaids in this kit for basic 1st aid

Once you break the seal, unzip the kit FULLY and lay it open so you can access everything quickly.

Once open you will find a pair of gloves, start by putting on the gloves.  you will also find two quick reference cards to remind you of how the components work and when to use them.

This kit is equipped with a Tactical Emergency Tourniquet.  Place the bleeding extremity through the loop.  Pull the extra strap tight and turn the “windless” until the bleeding stops.  Write the time on the tag with the provided Sharpie.  Click on the 2:36 long video for detailed instructions on how to use this tourniquet.

The Israeli 6" Compression Bandage 

was developed for use in the U.S. military to quickly stop bleeding in emergency situations by putting focused pressure on uncontrollable wounds.

In the top portion of the trauma kit, you will find the following three items:

  1. 7.5” Medical Bandage Shears with Carabiner.  For use in cutting away and clothing that would prevent you from visualizing the wound. 

  2. 2 pack, North American Rescue Hyfin Vent Chest Seal.  This is used to seal up any penetrating or through and through wound in the torso area, where air entry could cause more damage. 

   3. QuikClot Gauze 3 inch x 2 Foot.  This nonallergenic first aid gauze                         accelerates natural blood clotting and stops bleeding within minutes.

In the bottom on the kit you will find three rolls of stretch wrap bandage and two packs of compressed gauze for additional wound coverage.
